Paid to get all my medical notes very revealing

In the UK we can pay to have a copy of all our medical notes so I have done this.

Just the first 2 pages were very revealing, what do you think and any advice?

I have said all along that I remember having pins and needles many years ago, and I felt the doctors were missing the point, as I believe if I have MS (mild or not), it started when I was about 28/30.

Well this is just 2 letters the FIRST TWO IN THE PILE I picked up. The second one is very interesting.

No 1. 1st JULY 1982.............

Thank you for seeing Mrs TS, who has had quite an eventful past history, having lost her gall bladder four and half years ago and having a hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy two and half years ago for an ovarian cyst.  She has had no hormone replacement since that time.

She has complained recently of weight loss, pronounced MYALGIA, TIREDNESS and FATIQUE, and of being woken at night by TINGLING IN THE ARMS AND HANDS.  She has also had variably tender cervical and axillary glands.  These symptoms have ben present for some while, but whereas they were initially in episodes with reasonable spells of good health between them, they have now been more or less constant for six weeks.  A full blood count repeated during this spell shows her to be not anaemic, but she had a serum iron at the lower limit of normal (11).  Her white ocunt is normal, but the differential shows a consistent increase in lymphocytes 50% on the 7th April and 57% on the 4th June.  General examination confirms the tender glands and a suspicion of tenderness also over the spleen and liver.  I could find no other abnormality.

I suppose the most likely diagnosis is glandular fever despite the fact the the glandular fever slide test has been negative on both occasions.

The second one 7TH July 1982

Thank you for asking to see this most interesting young woman, who has a very full and unfortunate past surgical history and a recent history of loss of weight, myalgia, tiredness and drenching night sweats.

In the past she has visited Kenya and has drunk untreated milk, but she told me that a Brucella test was performed and found to be normal.  On examination, she has some soft but rather small lymph glands on both sides of the neck and tenderness over the spleen.  She has, also however, fairly marked tenderness in many of the muscles and said that she had had an episode of pain in one hip joint some months ago which had settled.   I felt, on the whole, that she was not suffering from malignant lymphoma, but from a general medical condition, possibly viral and possibly BRUCELLOLOSIS inspite of the negative Brucella test.  I felt a general medical opinion would be worthwhile and fortunately Dr Ian Bailey was able to see her with me that afternoon.

He concurred with my general opinion and sent blood off for various investigations.
................................................................................

The next letter from Dr Ian Bailey confirms he thinks I had Brucellosis but the tests were negative.

................................................................................

WELL NO ONE told me they thought I did actually have Brucellosis. However the symptoms though I had were:

Myalgia
Tiredness and fatique
Tingling in the arms and hands
Night sweats

Hummm what does that sound like LOL. Anyone one to google LOL.

I have tons to read through so I will let you know how I get on with my confirmed timeline which I am going to give to this professor guy.

You'll have to let us know if it is Malta Fever.  That is really odd that no one ever told you.  I would be mad, but you seem to be taking it well.  Good luck with your MS doctor.

Hi no I never did get antibiotics for brucellosis, I dont think they could decide if I had it or not, however doing lots of research I have found if untreated it can become chronic. I have also found neurobrucellosis which matches me PERFECTLY. I have also over the years had things that match brucellosis, including Sterile Pyruria, calcification, pain in the abdoman long standing, slight problem with spleen, and lymp glands swollen, temperature spikes although my normal temperature is low than normal when it goes up to 37.3C, I feel awful like flu.  For 2 years after coming home from Kenya I had night sweats too.

Mind you what is funny is I lived in MALTA FOR 3 years when I was about 11 I think, and Brucellosis was called MALTA FEVER LOL.

Anyway I am seeing the big cheese for MS soon and I am going to mention this to him.  xx

Being a curious person I could not resist the google.  It is indeed very interesting as you have the means of contamination and the symptoms seem to fit.  Did they treat you with antibiotics for the suspected infection?
