Good News!

I got a call back from my PCP's office yesterday morning and he increased my Neurontin from 300mg to 600mg. So hopefully my days will become a little more pleasant over the next few days.

800mg @ 3x/day.  Morning, mid-afternoon, & bedtime.

I take 300mg 4 times a day. My doc said to spread it out throughout the day, and 4 times a day works as it coincides with other meds I'm taking. When I need an extra 300mg for breakthrough pain I take it at bed time.

I take 1200mg three times a day.  Like Kyle, I also take a tricyclic antidepressant at night, which gives me more relief than the gabapentin alone.  I take 80 MG of nortriptyline.  I first used amitriptyline, the one Kyle is on, but I couldnt tolerate the urinary hesitancy it caused.  You might consider one of these additional meds, later on, if you find you still need relief even at a higher dose of gabapentin.  Just something to keep in mind.

I have an appt next month so he's probably just trying to see how I do on the 600, and the go from there.

When I started on it initially it was 1 pill/day for 3 days, then 2 pills per day for 3 days, then finally 3 pills per day. I am increasing it the same way. Except I am taking the other 300 in the morning so I can have it in my system during the day. Obviously I am not noticing much of a difference yet.

I'm wondering how everyone else takes their doses? All at once. Twice a day? Three times per day? If you take it all at once, do you notice when it wears off?

just move up slowly, don't go straight from 300 to 600.  Usually the pharmacy gives you a suggested increase plan.

It has taken me over 2 weeks and I'm still not there yet.  But it is working, the increase that I can handle so far.  perhaps at night first?

Good news!

Kyle's right about the magic number, so I wonder why your doctor didn't just allow you up to a max of 3600mg and let you find what dose works for you.

For me 1200mg daily works, with a bump up to 1500mg when break through pain persists.

I sure hope the 600mg is your magic number.

Progress! I would advise patience however. 600mg might be the magic number, but it might not. You can go up to 3600mg, which is where I am.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :-)
