Moki You are too funny Thanks for the smiles
Elaine and Quix thank you both for the research . I am now more confused though ..
Quix Do you mean that this could ALL be from the parathyroid , even the lesions..?
Or that this is probably two things going on at the same time ?
Thanks you all very , very much
Jo
I did a search and found a mountain of info linking the two items. It would take too much time for me to understand all of this, but yes, high PTH levels, which lead to high Ca (sometimes just barely elevated) are linked both to central and definitely to peripheral demyelination. All problems seem to resolve when the high PTH is taken care of.

Prayers you need, prayers you are getting!!!!
I know that people here have often said that you can have more than one thing going on at the same time. Maybe that is the case with you. You just can't be back in Limbo. Nope not going to happen. Nuh, never, never, never. I have spoken!!!
I'm just so sorry you are going through all this again.
Gentle Hugs

I found the same article. I do still have some of these sx. But don't think I fit with the neuromuscular disease part very well..
It makes my MS dx, muddied .. I don't want it taken away ..Yet :) It would be great if all my problems were from the parathyroid..?? but.. I do have many lesions and banding and spasms , nystagmus and balance , .. some of the other issues could fit .
I thought this was all settled and I could focus my energies on fighting MS.. Cr@p More tests , more waiting and maybe more surgery.
Am I back on the Limbo Land Express ? :) :)
Prayers needed for my sanity , thanks
Jo
Sorry Jo, I forgot to add that it appears the symptoms mimic a neuromuscular disease but there was no mention of demyelination occurring. And the patients returned to normal so there was no real damage.
So maybe the PCP means it is a demyelination mimic, but i can't find any real reference to actual proof of demyelination.

Jo,
I just googled "Hyperparathyroidism and demyelinating disease" and did come up with an excerpt from a medical book talking about cases of hyperparathyroidism caused by a parathyroid adenoma and the onset of neuromuscular disease.
Some of the findings on these patients were: hyper reflexes, positive Babinski, paresthesias, muscle atrophy, normal EMG.
Muscle strength improved and paresthesias went away after the adenoma was removed and calcium levels returned to normal. It took about a year for the patients to fully return to normal.
I guess this makes sense because of the calcium levels being high. but it is scary to see such similarities.
Please keep us posted on what happens. Good Luck.
Elaine
