Sensitive Question

I have searched the forum to see if I could find a thread regarding this subject, but maybe I am not using the right terms because I haven't been able to find anything specific.

The subject:  "private area" numbness or loss of sensation.  I woke up on Saturday to a loss of sensation in that area, from one end to the other!  Not a total loss of sensation - but pretty close.  I have previously had episodes where it "seemed" like there was some minor loss of sensation there, but I was able to convince myself otherwise....(ahh denial)....

It has lessened since Saturday, but it is still there...wondering if anyone has experienced this & whether or not I should call my neuro...??

Hugs,
Chrisy

I don't think this subject is sensitive at all.  That's the whole problem, lol.

I am so glad to know that I'm not the only one who has experienced this.  It's embarrassing to try to explain it to the doctor!  Thanks for starting this thread!

Over the last year, my perineum and all associated areas have slowly but surely lost sensation.  I no longer (as of my November Flair) have the urge to move my bowels, so I make myself move them at the same time every day. Takes a while, but I move them.

I've had one orgasm since June (Hallelujah!), and there are also the urinary surprises.  Dang!  The ol' Spinal Lesion Blues...

I have had long periods where my perineum felt numb, even dating before my diagnosis.  Though we are now assuming that the beginning of my MS was 8 years before diagnosis.

It's a very common symptom.

Thanks for the input - called my neuro to see what to do.  My PT says this is not from the PT that we are doing for my tight hip flexors.

yup, got that with this latest flare, exactly like you describe - I also feel like I have a permanent wedgie but it is getting less numb slowly - been 8 weeks so far

I would call your neuro, my neurologist told me it was from spinal lesions and yes I have the same problem, infact when I had it really bad my neuro wanted to give me 3 days of the cortisone stuff in the drip to try and stop the inflammation.  I still have diminished feeling there but it's much better, It took me over 6mths to recover from that flare, so I can relate.

Apparently according to my neuro it is quite common with MS.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Chrisy,
This has been kicked about a few times - it is more common than you might think. If you search this community for *perineum* you will find several different threads.

And no, remember you are never alone in any of these weird symptoms.

be well,
Lulu

THANK YOU!!  At least I know someone else has it besides me. I am not diagnosed yet, but had this same symptom.  My inner thigh into the private area was tingly and numb feeling for 3-4 days.  Started on the left thigh and moved across the "area" and into the right thigh.  It eventually resolved on its own, but it was very strange.  I am sorry but there are alot of things about this MS that are strange!!

Thanks for helping me out,
Debbie
