Positive MRI and negative LP

I am going to see my "regular" doctor today to try for a second opinion. I have had increasing lesions on MRI's for the past 8 years. I recently had a negative LP so the neuro just wants me to come back for another MRI in 6 months. I am really beginning to have alot of symptoms and I know that my doctor will intimidate me, is there an argument for another opinion if you have a negative LP?

Bambi,
don't settle for this - LP's can be negative (read our health page)  and you still have MS.  An LP is not to be used for diagnosing MS anyway.  Talk to your doctor about getting a referral to an MS specialist there - ok?

my best,
Laura

Hi there, just letting you know that I just got Dx with MS, not sure which type yet. I'm going to see the MS specialist next week to find out more info.  I had a Neg LP done over two years ago.

as it was Neg it did make getting the Dx alot harder, but they said sometimes it Neg and you can still have MS... it could change later I guess??

You can go to as many Neurologists as you need. It took four for me. Have you seen an MS Specialist? Neurologists Specialize. MS Specialist have more experience with MS.

I do have to say with a negative LP my MS Specialist would have waited six months for me.

Good luck,
Alex
