Post surgery

All

I had my parathyroid surgery last Tues., they removed an adenoma the size of a grape and I am steadily feeling better.  Its not the miracle I was hoping for ...  yet  ! !  They say it can take up to a month to feel relief from sx.s.   I think I'm still clearing the anesthesia.  Any one have info on the affects of versed , its is some strange stuff.

The surgery went well.  I have a one inch incision . Very sore and I can't lift my head on my own . It feels like whip lash.

My mental status is in question ..  I feel so less than myself, not happy , low ,  its hard to describe.  I was wondering if the drugs could still be in my system..

Take care , thanks for any help
Jo

I hope you will feel better soon. Surgery is a big deal, outpatient or not, and things take time to settle down. I know you've heard that a million times, but it does bear repeating. Please be patient with yourself.

My sister-in-law also has a parathyroid problem that is causing her to leach calcium. Her mother has the same thing. It is causing osteopenia, so today she is doing a surgical consult herself. I don't know if that's what's going on with you, but if it is, your blood chemistry will gradually return to normal.

Try to rest, and take your mind off things with whatever works. Post often!

Hi Jo...glad to hear you made it through the surgery alright and recuperating!  I was reading the info on the versed and it is a strange sort of drug...is that what they gave you to perform the surgery or are you on it now?

Versed can have some strange side effects including hallucinations so I can see where you are feeling out of sorts if you are still taking it for sleep.  Other than that, possibly the fact that you were expecting a miracle cure and it is going to take a lot longer than you thought to start to feel better, that in itself is going to have some effect on your mental status honey.  Also, being stuck in bed because you can't lift your head on your own is depressing enough!  I am hoping that day to day as you get a little stronger, your mental status will also lift...I think if you just give yourself a break and take some more time you will probably start to feel happier as your health improves.  Give it a few more days and if you haven't improved or if you feel that it is getting worse, give the doc a call and explain it to him...I am sure that they deal with this sort of "after effect" on a regular basis.

In the meantime honey, I hope you do start feeling stronger and happier soon and I am sure that you will!  We are all 100% behind you and keep talking to us...we are here to help you feel better ok?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena
