Ha! I will have to tell my 12 year old son about that. He will find that fascinating!!
Thanks for checking on those jeans for me. They sound great!

where do you get the insulated blue jeans?
I bet -55 REALLY makes your nose stick shut!!! HAHA!!! It has been cold enough here that I notice my nostrils want to stick together....yuck
LA
Nope you can't even tell they are insulated most of the pading is in the leg parts and my wife loves them for winter

I love Cuddl Duds. They have them in several weights and styles. I just bought the eco friendly long johns and a tank top. They are extremely thin and light weight and really cut the chill! You can get tanks, t-shirt, crew neck, v neck etc. They were about $28 a piece, but got them on sale. You can find them at Penneys or any department store lingerie department. I can wear them under work clothes or casual and I have even slept in them! Check it out on their website! cuddlduds and the usual *******.
I have seen it as low as -55 below for about a month not fun at all had the truck all warm up and put the clutch down and that's were it stayed for over an hour before I get going lol

Oh I'd go hide in my bed and never come out if it were -20 here!! Although we have been that cold here at times in the past. I think that is about as cold as it gets here.
Do the insulated blue jeans add bulk? Don't need any added bulk! ;-)
LA
they do make insulated blue jeans that work real well, other then that we just layer up and 20 sounds real nice right about now here in my part of Alaska it's -20 below

Thanks Ess. I will check both of those out. Our local Sears has a few LE things but it was really a small selection last time I was there.

Both LE and LLB have nice silk underwear at reasonable prices. This year I bought a LE V-neck underwear top for $30. Don't know if Sears carries these, but they might.

Hi Kathy,
HA! My husband would go for the body heat thing! I'll have to look up silk underwear.
I bought books and shoes from Lands End last year that are wonderful! They are lambs wool and keep my feet so warm. They are the only thing I wear during the winter.
I tried to find them again this year but I did not see them on the LE web site. :(

My old climbing buddy swore that silk long underwear were the best bet. They're thin (and soft) but keep you warm, but don't trap moisture. I think he got his through REI (fancy sporting goods store if you're not familiar with it).
The only other suggestion I can think of is to dress in layers, that way you can peel some off if you're too warm, and add them back when you're shivering!
We're expecting a cold spell here, but it's only going to be in the teens and 20's; we rarely get anything colder here. Brrrr! My feet get so cold as it is, I can't imagine living where it's as cold as you're talking about.
Oh, one last stay-warm idea; combine body heat. ;o) OK, that doesn't have to be naughty; you've heard of the old band Three Dog Night, named after a night so cold that you need to sleep with three dogs to keep you warm!
Take care,
Kathy
