I'm so sorry; what a challenging situation.
It sounds like your neurologist is doing due diligence -- many ms neurologists will immediately rule out ms on the basis of a normal LP (mine did). There is only a small percentage of pwMS (people/persons with ms) with a negative LP ... but they do exist. I'm one of them.
At this point, you will be followed until they have enough information to either diagnose you with ms, or with something else. There are many mimics and it is sometimes a complicated process.
Historically, IV solumedrol was given during relapses of ms to reduce the inflammation. This is becoming less common (in some countries) because steroids can cause other adverse effects, and they often don't shorten the relapse by much. However, generally relapses (if ms) will dissipate -- it can take time for the effects to improve.
