Starting clinical trial on Wednesday

I'm starting a clinical trial for FTY720 (Fingolimod) on Wednesday. Fingolimod is an oral pill that is a "novel immunosuppressant" that apparently works by preventing lymphocytes from leaving the lymph nodes and going to the central nervous system to cause damage, but may also have some direct effects on the central nervous system.

Anyway, wish me luck that I get the real med, that it works, and that nothing dangerous happens.

Thank you so much for all the good wishes. I got through the first day of the trial (and I'm sure all your support helped) and will write more about it and try to answer everybody's questions, but probably won't have time until Friday or Saturday.

Hi Shoshin

Great news !    How exciting ..    Thanks for doing this .  It will be a wonderful thing for so many to be able to take a pill instead of injections ..

Please give frequent updates..

Every time you take one of your pills , image that it IS the Fingolimod and  it's  doing  it's job  ( and doing it well )     ..   imagery and positive thinking go a long way

You will be in my thoughts and prayers

HUGS

Hey, Sho, this is really exciting news. I echo all the questions the others have posted. Guess there are many ongoing clinical trials of other drugs, but this one has made it to the top of the heap in terms of publicity, at least. Let's hope it's the best one, too.

Best of luck!

I've been in touch with a woman who just finished a fingolimod trial.  I don't think she has found out yet if she was on it or placebo.  She was on Avonex throughout the study.

Will you be on one of the other DMD's during this study in addition to fingolimod/placebo?

How long is the phase of the study that you are participating in?

As you can tell, I'm really interested!

good luck!

Best of Luck on this  opportunity.  So you won't know if you are on the real pill or a placebo?  How long will it go one?
