Seeing semi-circles of "fluorescent light" brightness

Seeing semi-circle of "fluorescent light" brightness in lower left corner of my left eye visual field for several months. Started several times per week, now about a dozen times a day.  Occasionally occurs in right eye, but much less frequently.  Optometrist did not do dilated exam, but suggested I return if it continued.  I'm worried about retinal detatchment.

Thank you for responding.  Have seen ophthalmologist and all is perfectly normal.  He found no cause for what I'm seeing, and advised me to return if anything changes.  I guess I'm supposed to choose the best answer, but they've all been helpful; I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.

Thank you for your comments.  The lights occur in both eyes, more much more frequently on the left, but always in the exact same spot -- in the lower outside corner of each field of vision.  I am planning to see an ophthalmologist.
I appreciate your advice,
Vikki

I also get ocular migraines and see similar things.  Is it only 1 eye or both that you have this in the lower left corner?

I would strongly recommend you see an Ophthalmologist, and not an Optometrist. You need a dilated exam, sooner than later.  If you dont know of any, I would call your PCP and get some names.

Take care,
Michelle

Hi Vikki,
I saw your other post where you mention you posted in this in the wrong forum. No problem. Until I saw that, I wanted to mention that I get occular migraines that include those flourescent lights you describe, and I can't see anything through them until it passes, which is usually 20 mins. Hope you don't mind me mentioning, and good luck to you.
