Shortness of Breath

I've heard a lot of people talk about having shortness of breath.  I wanted to pick your brains on this forum and see if you've heard about it being related to MS.

I have recurring mild shortness of breath, best described as 'air hunger.'  It's one of those things that comes and goes, like the bladder, the weak leg and the sleepy hands, so I think it must be neurological.

I agree that when you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail!  I don't want to blame this necessarily on MS, but I didn't have this two years ago.

It's a peculiar symptom, because it's a simple need for more air than I'm getting.  I don't feel asthmatic, or wheezy, or congested.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was anxiety, because it feels a little bit like that.  Except I'm not anxious.

hi jen,

i do have SOB (shortnes of breath) I t comes at random times, . It like i 'old my breath'  unconciously, then i will take a gasp. This can happen may times and i have to think about brathing.
My doctors know, and i have had extensive cardiooo workups for  my ayrrthmia and hypotention. My heart is fine, it is the brain thing.

However, i do not have a clear dx'd. but have been dx'd with ms in the past, to have it taken away. Then have dx's of 'probable' MSA (multiple system atrophy-c) but they say i do not progress fast enough (hurrah! but i do know beetter as many people do not ) I am not certain with ms if SOB is common?

I do have parkinson type symptoms, slow moving (bradykenesia ) and FOG (freezing of gait).  Anyways,
They have not offered why I have this SOB, i hva e not have a sleep stuudy , but maybe it comes from central apnea?
Have you brought this up to your doctor?

I don't know if this is any helps.Butr i do know not enough O2  you can have many neuuro sx's.
hope youuu are ok today, amo

I have not been dx with MS yet, but I do occasionally have what you discribed as air hungrer. I believe mine is related to anxiety though  as it improves after I calm down or take my anxiety medicine. I have a    panic disorder and have dealt with this for  years. But heather is right, there can be many causes of this and you should discuss it with your doctor.

I have never had the shortness of breath thing with the MS.  It's always dangerous to blame everything on MS, so please tell your doctor what is going on.

This may be something else...altogether.

Never can be too safe girl...

Best Wishes,
Heather
