Testing heat intolerance

Hello,

Do those of you that have problems with heat notice it more during an exacerbation?

I have been having tremors and headaches and fatigue since early Feb., had an MRI with multiple lesions 2/22/08, and am in Limboland.  I have noticed more cold intolerance, with cramping of muscles all over my body, tachycardia, etc.  I don't remember heat problems, except that the last time I went to Vegas I had trouble walking the great distances that I used to relish.

My best friend decided that she was worried about me being so tired all the time, so she is sending me to Palm Springs for 8 days.  She had a two bedroom timeshare booked that she couldn't use (got big promotion!) or save, and plenty of airline miles to send me down.  Fluffy will stay at home with a neighbor looking in on him, feeding him, and giving him his meds.  He has been waking me up at all hours of the night, which adds to my problems.

I'm a bit concerned that my fatigue will be worse down there in the heat, and possibly the tremors, too.  The thought of uninterrupted sleep won me over, though.  I'll pick up an air conditioned car at the airport, have a big place to read and relax in, and eight swimming pools to bob around in.  If I feel up to it, I'll even check out their water exercise classes (if they still offer them; I haven't been there in years).

The big LPGA tournament at Rancho Mirage will be going on while I'm down there, but I don't know if I'll be up to walking around a golf course in the heat.  I guess I could plant myself in the shade somewhere and watch the groups of golfers go by.

I'll have my doctor's phone numbers programmed into my phone just in case my body tries a new symptom, and my medical card also just in case.  I thought of borrowing a laptop, but I figured that would just be too much to carry.  If I miss y'all too much, they have pay-per internet usage at the resort!

What do you think?  I'm kind of chicken and excited at the same time.  I'm not used to travelling alone, and the tremors, headaches and occasional dizziness can be freaky.  I know not to drive when I'm in a bad way, and everything I need is close down there.  Hmmm...

Kathy

Thank you all so much for you reassurance.  I'm sure I'll have a great time; I wish I could take you all with me!

I bought a new bathing suit yesterday and am considering a pedicure.  I have a list of things I need to get done, but I have a few days left

I'll post some pictures when I get back!

Like the others say, I would totally go.  If you find that the heat bothers you, stay on your patio or balcony where you can get dips in the A/C as needed and frequently!

Go go go!

Very exciting.

Ok, if the heat bothers you remember, there is such thing as airconditioning & make the most of it.  Also bobbing around in a swimming pool should help.

Drink plenty (not soley the alcoholic type), which also helps in keeping your body cool.

Heat can be bothersome, but the thing is to avoid overheating.

So excited for you!

Oh yes go on the trip it will do you a lot of good.

I have a lot of trouble in the heat it is so bad that I can  barely walk and get beside myself with distress. It just zaps my energy so bad I am like a limp rag. It just makes me feel crazy. Even too much heat in a room in winter hurts me.  A hot bath too will set of my symptoms like muscle weakness, tiredness etc.

The cold it affects me if I am out in it standing and it seeps in then i get very stiff.

Have a wonderful holiday

Hugs

The heat bothers me big time. Also the cold bothers me. I turn into a vampire during the warm weather. I live in ac during the day or go from my ac van to the ac store. I do not go to ball games or anything else like that outdoors during the hot weather. That's how it is for me. Would I go on a free trip to Palm Springs? You betcha! Like Heather said, you will figure out how to make it work for you. There is always siesta time!!!! Have an absolutely wonderful time!

Oh Kathy, I would go on that trip no matter what.  What a great way to have some rest and relaxation.  You will have to play it by ear when it comes to the heat.  It may or may not affect you.  But I do suggest not overdoing.

I am affected by heat with my MS, but also find that my legs are crampy when I am exposed to excessive moisture and cold.  Maybe that's the arthritis thing I have and has nothing to do with MS.

I vote that you go on that trip and RELAX.,  What a great way to give your body and mind a rest.

Have fun girl,
Heather
