You should contact your doctor. The headaches should not be related to the Gadolinium paramagnetic contrast (it is not a dye.) By now, the GAD will be out of your system.

had a concussion several weeks ago, should I get the MRI with contrast or without contrast. have had headaches and nausea continually since hitting my head and they are getting worse.
appreciate your thoughts.

Please try not to read too much into this. It's very possible that the MRI technician or someone else involved simply fouled up the first scan results. An expensive goof, but still possible.

thanks for your replies,I live in the UK and my scans were paid for by our national health service.I know that scans are'nt cheap so that's why I thought it was strange to be recalled....suppose it's just a case of waiting and seeing.
Thanks again and take care
It is very unusual to have an MRI done, then have a doctor turn around and asked that another full scan be done. It's a wonder the insurance is going to pay for it.
I take it that the first MRI was NOT done with contrast dye. So yes, it is unsual that your doctor would now want it repeated. Now saying with and without contrast dye. Again I say, if the insurance company is going to allow this, it will be a miracle. Mine wouldn't allow it.
MRI is very expensive. The whole brain and spine with and without contrast is around $8,000 where I live in Virginia.
I believe your radiologoist dropped the ball on this one. I think he saw something and should have had the discretion to use contrast dye at the first testing.
This is only MY opinion, having been through dozens of MRI in my 12 years of being diagnosed with MS.
Please keep us informed about what they find. I am most interested.
I am glad you posted and welcome you to the forum.

Hi,
It is standard to use dye. I'm having an MRI next week and my doc wrote on the order ' with and without contrast' , also ' r/o ( rule-out) MS' . Maybe this radiologist is just very good and conscientious , wants to give you the very best picture of what is going on. Since with contrast is protocol he's being thorough. Relax , have a nice week-end and good luck .
If you are new here welcome and come back any ole time you like . Let us know what happens.
