Hi and welcome fellow Ozzie,

In Australia our health system, is in many areas quite different to other countries, the months long wait before seeing a neurologist is unfortunately one of the things all countries seems to have in common.

From what you have mentioned, you haven't given the impression that you're in crisis and this is a medical emergency, but I honestly think you need to make to make a call to your GP and ask him/her this question....

Keep in touch, let us know how you get on!

Cheers..........JJ

That sounds bad I am sorry. It takes time to see a MS Specialist. You can say you will take any cancellation. Can you ask your GP for something for pain?

You can go to the ER for pain. For a diagnosis it would be a long shot. ERs are not there to diagnose only patch and send you on your way.. I went throwing from cancer. They stopped the vomiting and sent me home. They could not even make me a referral even though the ER doctor wanted me admitted for tests. My GP found the cancer six months later. Sometimes some one gets lucky and they get diagnosed from a referral from an ER. Usually they give you pain medicine and may be referral but that is it. Sometimes you get neither. Also you might have to wait a long time.

There is a shortage of MS Specialist. It can take months. Neurologists specialize and if you get one like I did who does not specialize in MS you can wind up having to start all over with a MS specialist. All my tests showed MS and the neurologist said no way did I have MS. I then went to a MS Specialist and was eventually diagnosed with MS. It took me two years to be diagnosed with MS even though all my tests showed MS. My GP thought I had MS but it takes a neurologist to diagnose it.
