chirping in my ears(not ringing-what the heck...?)

Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone here has ever had a chirping sound in their ears? Now, Iv'e had ringing alot in the past and even a whooshing sound and was assured it was nothing but the past few days it sounds like a baby bird or idk what...

Anyway, now that my pain is starting to ease up, (finally) the chirping is really starting to get on my nerves!!!!

Is this a sx like the other's I've had or am I really losing my mind?

I too have had the whooshing in my ears, I describe it as a butterfly flapping its wings briefly. I have a constant buzzing and when its not doing that it sometimes sounds like crickets.

I have no idea what it is. The last time my dr looked in my ears I asked if he noticed anything irregular. He stated he didnt and I told him of the buzzing. He really didnt say much of anything but gave me a strange look. lol

Glad to know I'm not the only one. For me it actually sounds like a bunch of crickets having a party in my left ear.  Every doctor I have been to writes it off as being tinnitus too.  I even was told the same thing at the VA hospital.  Its difficult to live with, but it has a mind of its own when it starts and when it stops.  I just wish I could record it so others could hear what I hear maybe they would have more sympathy.

OMGOSH yes I have had this for about a week now. I have had ringing in my ears for a long time now off and on and it happened to start with this bird chripping sound the same night hurricane Matthew was hitting us. Well I told my husband knowing he would think I was crazy and would pick on me for it but I thought something was just weird and kinda thought it was due to the pressure from the storm.(my body always acts weird when there is alot of pressure in the air) well now it's been a week and it is still doing it so Idk what the deal is. It doesn't hurt or anything it is just annoying and I want it to stop. I really don't want to tell my pcm to get a crazy look like my husband gave me. I wonder if the sweet oil will help I know my grandma uses it when anyone had a ear infection.... Looks like I will be calling her to find out.

I have it to and didn't know rather to say hundreds of birds chirping or crickets like a spring night. I only hear it at my house.outside and when inside they sound like at more of a distance. The funny thing about it, my grandsons girlfriend was here and said "what is that, birds?" I said you hear it two! Nobody else does.I wish I knew what it is.

I also have permanent bilateral high pitched ringing. I can have other types of hissing & buzzing mostly at the high pitched levels but these are not permanent. I have high pitched sensory neural hearing loss more so in the left than the right.

I have been to the ENT & a Neuro specialist who deals with the inner ear & vestibular nerve. I have been told my ears are fine & that it could be caused to a particular brain stem lesion I have. I have to live with it 24/7 so I tend to always have something in the background producing noise like the radio. In the last year it has reached a loud level but there's nothing I can do about it only live with it.

I have read a bit about tinnitus & you can hear just about anything but it is more typical to hear the ringing, hissing, buzzing type noise. I have MS which can cause tinnitus but my mum has had hearing problems with significant loss of hearing since about the age of 35 without any known cause. I am thinking I am following in her footsteps & there is some kind of genetic problem.

Tinnitus is a very common problem in general & permanent tinnitus often but not always produces some hearing loss. It's a weird one that's for sure. Karry.

I have had constant chirping and squeeling in my ears for years. Just something I live with.never goes away. But I listen to rain Sounds at bedtime. It helps me fall asleep without the "crickets".

Great post!  I have had the high-pitched ringing ever since my brain injury from a car accident...sometimes, it really drives me crazy!

Zoe...I hadn't put the two together, until you asked...but I have a small, but rather loud, fan running all night (for other reasons)...and yes, it does help to drown out the ringing.  Just wanted to respond to your question.

I have another one for you...sometimes, when I am in a quiet place, I hear a strange sound in my right ear...the only way to describe it, is if you dropped a ball, and it would bounce, slowly at first, and then faster and faster, until it stopped.  Well, that is exactly what I hear in my ear, every once in a while.  Pretty strange, huh!  Thanks for listening to my crazy symptoms!  Jan.

I've had some interesting chirping in my right ear. Kind of like a cricket. It's always the same pattern: one short chirp (or click), 1/2 second of silence, then about 10-12 short chirps (kind of like warbling), lasting about 1/2 second. This repeats every 15-30 seconds. It goes on for hours or days, then quits for a few days. The pitch of the chirps is always the same: right around 2khz.
I have typical middle-age high-end loss in both ears, but the right is a little worse than the left.

Hi all, just wanted to add myself to the funny hearing club...I'm being driven nuts by a buzzing ear! Mine feels like I have a bee in my ear or something. Have any of you tried white noise devices to help?

I have had phantom doorbell ringing and have driven my children crazy when they were little by running to the door. When I lived in a house without a doorbell, I would hear knocking!  Now I have a chirp, clicking, whoosh, high pitch noise and others and it is driving me crazy. And ear is stopped up from last weeks sinus infection that antibiotics helped, but still have problems in ear. I need that baby bird OUT!

Hi Stella--Yep--I had a sudden hearing loss in my left ear 11 years ago and some time after that I began having "chirping" episodes, just like a birdie. It  would chirp on and off for a little while, quite randomly, and then stop.

Also have a constant whirring noise in that ear, plus the whole range of other stuff--have had "Morse code" as Deb describes, a beeping alarm clock, the Wall Street closing bell, and clicking noise together with pressure/pain behind the ear.

Don't know what causes the chirping. I always thought maybe it was a Eustachian tube issue, but I have never actually had Eustachian tube problems that I know of.

Deb - I thought the whooshing was my bp too when it appeared (and still think that when it happens sometimes) but my doc sd. my bp was fine and I've never had high b.p.except with severe pain. I hear the phantom phone ringing too! I've just never even put the two together and always think I'm going crazy! Thanks again and I'm sorry to hear that you can't afford your hearing aides

Amers - Thank you and sorry yours is constant! I'm afraid I might pull my hair out if that were the case with me! If you find out anything Wed. let me know!!!

Hi Stella,
I suffer from bilateral tinnintus. I can't say it sounds like chirping, although I do love that sound on occassion outside of my window in the morning but having it all day would be annoying. My tinnitus is a constant high pitch ringing. I see my ENT this coming Wednesday so I will find out more. I have had it since after Christmas and it came on suddenly.
My advice, go get an evaluation by an ENT. They may have an answer for you.,

I've had all sorts of sounds in my ears.  I've even had Morse Code clicking.  I've been told that is has to do with some kind of spasm in a muscle by the ear.  I even had the whooshing of sound in my ears in time with my heart (probably related to my blood pressure, though, not MS).  

I've also had phantom telephone ringing in the past.  I rush to the telephone to pick it up, and discover that the phone never rang in the first place.  I described this to my audiologist, but he didn't offer any information. However, I do have sensory-neural hearing loss in both ears.  I need hearing aides for both ears, but I can't afford them.
