The dangers of waxing - for me at least!

Hi all,

Haven't posted for awhile, been busy being too exhausted.

This might come under too much info - but I don't do my legs too often because its just too darn tiring.  But today I decided enough was enough.

I have had right sided numbness for the past about 10 months.  Their still taking their time figuring it out.  I've had a brain MRI to see if I had a mini-stroke (which would discount all the other symptoms I've had on and off for the last 20 years, but whatever it's a start!).  I'm still waiting on results.

Back to the waxing.  I heated the wax (sugar mix actually) in the microwave as I always do, and proceeded to spread some on the lower outside of my calf.  I thought it felt "weird", but didn't really click as to why.  Then I applied it a second time and it HURT.  Then I realized that I had burned myself the first time.  I didn't even feel the wax on my leg.  I think it hurt the second time because it was already burned so I had more sensation.

I was a little confused (normal things don't figure themselves out in my brain anymore), but then realized the wax should of felt hot.  I was still confused, even though the wax had liquified in the microwave, and figured it must not be hot.  So I tried it on my arm - OUCH, yup it's hot.

I realize now that I have to be more careful if I'm not going to have proper sensations.  Anyone else have these kind of issues?

I have problems with the bottoms of my feet - they're so numb that they don't register if there's someting stuck on the bottom.  I've cut my foot without realizing it.

Oddly enough, I have the same problem with my fingers, but this has worked out well - I'm learning bass, and the fingers being numb helps.

Ha!  I've tried to learn guitar, hate the sore finger part.  That would be a benefit!  At least somethings you can look on the bright side.

I have ended up with blisters, so I still have to be careful - just because I can't feel it doesn't mean it isn't doing me harm!

Ouch!!

I have sawed right into the fingers of my left hand with a serrated knife while cutting bread.  I have to look at what I'm doing and not go by feel as I have so much numbness in that hand, I think also because my proprioception is off.

A note on the waxing, be careful if you wax youe face at all if you're on medication.  So many meds can cause skin hyperpigmentation, and waxing can make it worse.  For small areas like eyebrows, threading is better.

I hope your burns heal quickly.

I tried waxing once, took half the skin off my shin and didn't like the look lol never again!

I hope you take pictures and make a note of this for your dr, it all adds to your history. Hope it heals soon, if its not please make sure you get it seen by a dr, the last thing you need is for it to get infected.

Cheers.......JJ
