Will the dura mater eventually heal on itself?

Thousands of people share there postpunction headache stories on the internet. People who suffered month after month. So my question is what happened with those people. Does the dura mater eventually heal after a csf-leak without a bloodpatch? After 26 days I still suffer  severe vertigo, neckpain and pain in the area around the puncture zone. Mentally this is really hard and I'm feeling the earth slipping away.

I'm sorry but I don't think there is anything that dr's can do besides a blood patch. You mentioned natural healing and wondered if i was mistaken about blood patches, i gather you don't see your own blood clotting process from a B/P as 'natural' and what you wanted was it to heal on it's own, which is what mainly happens.

I honestly don't know if you understand that by choosing to not do the blood patch, you are actually risking some very serious complication and no matter what you want, sometimes you have to be brave and do what you need. I think your first need......is to make an appointment with your general dr, and get a medical opinion on if your sx's are being caused from the LP and then you can discuss what choices you have!

Hugs..........JJ

Hi, thanks for your reply. The dr. who performed the lumbar puncture ignores me and said, through his secretary, that he can't help me because I didn't want the blood patch. I noticed on other forums that there are a lot of people who have symptoms for months but you can never reead what happened and if they recovered. The reason why I didn't want the blood patch was because I wanted a natural healing of the dura mater.

Your question has ended up in the MS community, and whilst LP's are fairly common for people here to have had at some stage during the dx, i can't recall anyone from here that did have problems from their LP, actually ever having it last for as long as yours.

Off the top of my head, i think everyone mentioning having to get a blood patch within days of their LP, was because of the horrendous migraine when moving, sitting up or standing. Id think there is the potential for your vertigo, neck pain and puncture pain to be caused by the LP but its always possible that its not.

I would suggest that even if you have already been back to your dr about what's happening, its 26 days later and still happening so its more than time to get these sx's investigated thoroughly.

Cheers..........JJ
