Urinary issues? Just not sure...

Hi all,
I have a strange problem going on. I feel as if I have a "distended" bladder. I have a feeling a pressure where my bladder is, almost like there is a tight ball in there. I don't know how else to describe it. However, even with the pressure, I don't have the urge to urinate. I'm able to if I try, but I'm not sure if I'm emptying completely. I have this sensation on and off at times, but today it is really bothersome. I started Tysabri on Thursday. Not sure if it's relevant though.
Thanks,
Monica

And since Tysabri suppresses the immune system (rather than modulating it) you should find out if retention is the issue as soon as possible.  As you progress with treatment your risk for UTI and sepsis could increase.  Hopefully retention issues would disappear on Tysabri eventually and take UTI potential along.

This sounds like it could be an inability to void completely. I had it years before I was diagnosed and didn't realize why I was repeatedly getting UTI's at the time. I felt a constant pressure, like I always had to go, but hardly anything would ever come out. I was literally going to the restroom every 15 -30 minutes for months on end.

I'm not sure if Tysabri could have any bearing on this issue, but I'm glad you're planning to talk to your neuro since bladder issues are so common in MS. If you've got a UTI, it needs to be treated before it turns into a kidney infection, and if you're having muscle problems that are making it difficult for you to empty your bladder, you want see what can be done to help you avoid having recurring UTI's.

Best,
Jane

I had urinary issues after my first two infusions.  They were very similar to what you describe.  I've wondered the same thing about whether or not I'm completely emptying or not.  My urine has also smelled different for the first week after each infusion.  It's something I'm going to talk to my neuro about when I see her next month.  I'm interested to see any other responses you get!
