feet pain

Hello everyone. I was diagnosed with MS in 2008. Everything has been going so so for me. I have learned my limitations, still working on accepting that I can no longer do what I use to without having to think about it.

I have been on 3 different therapies which did not work for me so as of now I just treat the symptoms and Israel IV steroids when necessary.

Niw for the reason I am here. Over the past few days my feet are horrible, cramping up at test, when I walk I feel like they are bruised so I cant walk long or be on my feet long.

Is this an MS symotom or should I be concerned about something else. This is a new symptom for me :(

Thank you!

Thanks everyone,

The pain continues! Uugghh! It is worse supone wakening or after relaxing for a while. The muscle relaxers arent to help a bit but when I walk my feet still feel bruised. Guess I will be calling my neuro today.

I will let you know what he says when he gets back yo me. Sometimes it takes still the send of the day before he returns my calls.

In addition to the causes already mentioned, it may be neuropathic pain. The pain sensors in your feet may be getting garbled messages, which they interpret as "Fire!"

I have/had a severe burning in my feet, like athlete's foot. Also the feeling that someone has just dropped a bowling ball on my feet. I take 3600mg gabapentin and 50mg amitriptilyne every day and my feet feel fine.

Hi there,

Thank you for joining us and I'm sorry for your dx. I'm glad to read you are learning your limitations, that's not an easy do for sure. Largely because they can be ever-changing, not to mention against your own will and wants :(

That said, yes, you can experience this in your feet and other places from MS. Here is a good health page on a potential reason:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Paresthesias---Things-That-Go-BUZZ-in-the-Night/show/378?cid=36

But ,it is important to let the doctor determine if this is indeed from your MS. That way you are certain you are not experiencing something else that can be treated more effectively (i.e., let doc rule out sugar, steroid side effects, etc.)

Welcome to the forum :)

Thank you. I take zanaflex for spasms. I doubled up in it last night and woke up feeling a bit better. I am going to call my neuro Monday if it doesnt get better. I am having lots of problems with my hips and feet.

I also take gabapentin for pain. It really does stink when new symptoms appear But all We can do is take what We are dealt and do the best We can.

You're not alone when you state your feet cramp up and my GUESS is that it's spasticity.Either that or your magnesium is low....which can be fixed, but to walk on them and have them feel bruised....well....I have read here somewhere that people complain that they felt like like they were walking on needles.

I know a few do not automatically assume its always their "MS" that causes every symptom they have, but in your case, I would THINK this time it may be.  My only suggestion is that you bring this up to your neurologist.  Are you on any antispasmodics and/or neurontin/gabapentin, or Lyrica?

Perhaps a low dose on baclofen and neuropathic pain medication could help.  But first I would suggest you get examined for that new symptom and go from there.

I hope by the time you read this that your pain and spasms have dissipated.

I apologize that I have overlooked your post and it hung here for awhile.

I know others  can chime in with their own experiences, especially those with a diagnosis of MS.

I hope this helps.
