question about strange (to me) pain

Hi all.  for the second time this week I have gotten a pain that I can't figure where it is coming from or what is causing it.  I have gotten it occasionally in the past but not this intense.
It starts in my upper jaw on both sides then spreads down to my lower jaw, down my neck and into both sides of my upper rib cage.  It finally migrates to my upper back and stays there.  When it hits I would rate it as a 8 or 9 out of 10. By the time it settles into my upper back it is a steady 8 and takes either lots of time or lots of meds to go away.  When it does finally fade I am left with a frontal headache.  My GP had thought it was inflammation of the cartilidge in reaction to something else wrong.
Anyone else have these or can shed some light on them.

My gp had also said intercostal chrondritis in the past.  Just wondering what is causing it this time, it usually has a trigger.
