Tecfedera

Had a follow up with MS NP and absolutely redeemed himself! He was so great - listened, answered, went over all options, side effects, etc. Glad we went back to him even though clinic is a nightmare to get to. Will begin Tecfedera in 2-3 weeks (when it arrives).

He prescribed Oxybutin for bladder problems. Took first one last night and didn't notice decrease in frequency or urgency (expect it will take a week or more to really get going), but noticed the drowsiness and dry mouth this morning. Antone else get this? What do you do to deal with it?

Hope all is well with everyone. Blessings.

It is warmth and you look like you have a really bad sunburn.  My reaction normally in on my face, neck and chest.  I can tell you about 30 minutes before it shows up that I am going to have a reaction because my neck will start to prickle and get hot.

Thank you, Kari! It's great to have a place where I can ask these questions.

Tec is on the way to me and I should be starting soon.

Thank you for the feedback, Kari. What exactly is flushing? Is it warmth, like a hot flash?

I started taking Tecfidera in May after being on Rebif for 2 years.  Taking a pill is so much easier then shots and less side effects.  I have not noticed any GI issues but have had the flushing.  Even after being on this med for 4 months I have the flushing about once a week.  I have tried to keep a log on what I do and what I eat to see if that relates to the flushing but I can find nothing in common with each time I have the flushing.  Some times the flushing is mild and sometimes it is really bad.  The flushing only last for about 30 minutes and then everything is back to normal.

I didn't notice your post when I posted mine or I would have just written my update on your thread :)

Pick up some acidopholis and begin taking it now. My Neuro said it would help with GI side effects and take it during dinner, no salads. LOL. She said it helps if you take it with fatty foods, I haven't really done that, just been taking it halfway thru dinner.

I'm excited to hear about your journey on this as well, please keep me updated!

Hurrah for redemption! I'm glad the neuro was better this time.   I was on Toviaz for a couple years and while it helped with the issue of incontinence, it had the horrible side effect of the dry mouth.  I found chewing gum or sucking on mints gave me some relief.  Otherwise, I remained parched like the desert in my mouth no matter how much water I drank.  There is a new drug out that doesn't cause the dry mouth but it was not so effective for my tap dancing bladder.   That drug is Myrbetriq, and might be worth a try if the dry mouth becomes too much.  Good luck with that side effect and the Tecfidera.  ~Laura
