RUQ pain, elevated ASTs... Time to re-evaluate DMD?

I've been quite active in my visits with my healthcare providers lately, and I've got a wonderful new family practice doc that is keen to my problems with MS. After some blood tests and a physical, she put me on a few new medications for cholesterol and blood pressure lately and have started having Right Upper Quadrant pain that comes and goes at random. I've been trying to keep track of it to see if it follows a pattern, but I can't see one. No matter what I do, it continues to be random. My BP is typically in the 150/100 range and it's imperative that I get it under control, so I was thinking about asking my neuro/PCP about stopping my Avonex for a few weeks to see if it goes away and my ASTs come back down again. No one ever told me what the procedure would be *if* my liver started having problems again, so is it safe to assume that they're going to recommend changing meds?

I have been having pains in the upper right quadrent for the past week.  They are intermitten and worrysome.  The first thing that I thought of was liver vs. interferron.  Keep on top of it!

Hey Jason,

Were your liver enzymes tested 3 months in and prior to starting the avonex? Sounds like you are trying to zero in on what is causing the elevation. That is difficult when you are on more than one med. I'm not familiar with the blood pressure and cholesterol meds causing an increase in the enzymes, but know the interferons can. Do you have your pharmacy print outs? I'd check them for that side affect since you did switch them.

If you'v not already done one, I think a timeline would be helpful, one that includes the dates starting meds, the labwork, and the pains..

Get back to us when you can,
