17 years old; short term memory loss, irrational anger, little concentration

Hi i problem sound like a depressed teen but i hope you take this seriously. Recently i have been having really bad short term memory loss in excess of 20seconds or so i'm really scared by it. Also i have been having alot of irrational anger. I do admit i supress all of my emotions around friends and family. Also a constant headache. I dont know wether this is related but i also have only had three or four dreams in my life (think it may be due to the short term memory loss, i cant remember them).

Well, drinking enough water should help keep your joints from doing that cracking.  Again, could be food allergy of some kind is giving you a headache.  And also, you gotta get enough exercise, lots of stretching, rub your neck and shoulders a lot, will help all your symptoms including the joints.  Hmmmm.  You may have arthritis, which if it's in your neck, you'll get a headache, and since your other joints are cracking, that is indeed a possibility.  Also, the general discomfort from arthritis will goof up your sleep and also make you angry.  I think you should visit a rheumatologist, perhaps, so he can investigate if you've got some sort of arthritis, to include crystal formations in the joints, rheumatoid arthritis, and arthritic changes in your neck.  Also, visit an eye doc, too, as I said before.

I can't believe I forgot the most important thing, concerning your sleep, and it ties in all your symptoms.  I'm the poster child for "little or no concentration."  If you drink a lot of sodas or coffee or tea during the day, the caffeine in them will (a) give you a headache, (b) ramp you up where you get angry, (c) and keep you from sleeping well.

So, if this is you, switch to all non-caffeinated drinks, like Gingerale or water...they have flavored waters, or you can squeeze lemon in tap water and add mint and ice.  But don't drink gallons of juice, it will dry you out.

Sometimes if you don't sleep well, which you mentioned lack of dreams, well, that can goof up your memory temporarily.  But you have other things happening, too.

I can definitely help you with the anger issue, because I had that when I was younger.  Also, lots of working people can identify with anger, because when you get in the work world, "stress" is the word of the day.  I like the "behaviorist" approach to irrational anger stuff, which means it doesn't matter why... it matters how you behave your way out of it.  Basically, you've got to get rid of the anger, and here's how.

Having a physical activity that is real forceful, breaks a sweat, and wears you slam out is what you need.  Whatever you're doing now is not enough.  I knew some young men in school who got into boxing, they had a punching bag in their garage, and I'd go over and watch them go at it.  See can you find a gym in your town and perhaps get into it, or perhaps martial arts, altho that's more controlled agression.  Or you can get into track, especially the 100-yard and 200-yard dash.  Just get out on a track, figure a distance, and run like a crazy person as fast as you can for as long as you can, time it, write down your speed, and practice, practice, practice.  There's other stuff, too, swimming, long-distance jogging, football... most young men love sports, because it releases all that physical tension.

On the subject of your headache, now that is concerning indeed.  I don't think you should be having those at your age.  Sometimes they can be caused by something as simple as certain foods will give you one, especially packaged stuff, so you can pay attention to that.  Another cause can be you may need eye glasses, so go to the optometrist and have him check out your vision.  Or could be all that anger is settling into your muscles in your shoulders and neck, which is where most tension ends up.  Feel of your shoulders and if they've got knots in them, well, you're going to have to do some stretching routines on a regular basis, to release the muscles, and your headaches will go away.

As for a possible neurological basis for all this, like your brain is in a tangle because you've burst a blood vessel or you have a tumor, the odds are very small on account of your age.  But a visit to a regular physician, and if you don't have one, you can walk into a county health clinic and they'll have a look at you that day, and they can do some simple checks to see if your health is in any kind of danger or out of the ordinary in some way.  I can tell you a couple things to do yourself.  Check your pulse, put your fingers between the wrist bone and the tendons, it should be below 100 per minute.  Stand and stretch your arms out to your side, close your eyes, and touch your nose with one index finger, and then touch it with the other, you should be able to do that easily.  If either test fails, going to the doc is no longer a choice; rather, you've GOT to go.

I hope some of these suggestions help.  If you need more advice, reply below, and your post will come to the top of the list again.
