Hi, Thank you for your question. Twitching appears when the muscle contracts on its own (without nerve stimulation). Most of the times these symptoms occur without any underlying disorder & they are not harmful or may appear after over exercise, anxiety, viral illness or long term illness. But sometimes this muscle twitching appears as atrophy and weakness of muscle as well. Most likely cause of this twitching with weakness/atrophy of muscle can be when the nerve supplying to hand/eye muscles is not functioning properly due to any neurological disorder. If you suffer continuous weakness and notice reduced strength of muscle bulk in areas, please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the possibilities here. Hope this information proves helpful to you.
I sometimes have muscle twitches in my legs and I am frequent to what some call "Charley Horses" I dont know if you know what those are- but they are very, very painful. They are muscle spasms in the legs and it locks the muscle into place - often caused by lack of protein or calcium, as of what my teacher tells me. How much protein and calcium do you get? Or perhaps the sudden lack of exercise startled your body and it wasnt ready for the change. I had the same twitches in my sides and legs after I stupidly stopped running in the mornings for a little over a week. If it continues twitching, you might want to see someone... Or maybe a professional of some sort - possibly a trainer from a local gym? I went and conversed with my P.E. teacher. :) It really helped. No more twitches! -Madd.
