Thank you for your replies. I was diagnosed on 9/4/09 with MS. My worst fear has come true. I am the 3rd of 4 sisters now with this disease. I go on Monday for my second opinion and then we decide on the method of treatment.
I wish I could wake up from this. I know you all feel the same way too.
Good luck to everyone
Emily
If you do happen to have MS please take your medicine.
A lot of people think " I feel fine so I don't see any reason to take it"
When MS plaque damages the sheath of the nerve cells other nerves take over the job of that cell, However this happens only a few times then a few months down the line you see the damage that was done. . So just because a person feels OK and there are no symptoms does not mean there is no damage.
I made that mistake and now I have Neuropathy ( peripheral nerve dysfunction ) with Parethesia ( painful pins and needles 24 hours a day ) from my elbows down.
Out of all the medicines Betaseron is the best because it is the only one that
1. That provides the highest weekly dose of all interferons, at 250mcg/dose, given every other day. ( the more often you can take a medicine for MS the more likely it will help ) The others I think are once a week
2. It is a subcutaneous (meaning that it is injected into the fat right under the skin) formula and is neutral pH, as opposed to Avonex (intramuscular, meaning injected into muscle) and Rebif (also subcutaneous, but acidic, so injections can be painful).
3. You don't have to put it in the refrigerator so you can take it with you when you leave home. The reason is because it requires mixing (as opposed to the others, which come in pre-filled syringes), but this allows it to be kept at room temperature (The others require a wait while it comes to room temperature).
However Betaseron comes with the usual interferon-related, flu-like symptoms, especially at the beginning of treatment. The doctor will tell you to take Tylenol about 15 minutes before the injection. The good thing is that you start at a small dose and increase gradually
Hi,
There are many causes of white matter lesions. They are- Multiple sclerosis, Chronic small vessel disease, Inflammatory processes such as Vasculitis, Arteriosclerosis and many others. It is mentioned in the MRI report that the chances are more of a demyelinating disease. It is most probably MS since it affects the myelin sheath of the nerves. Please consult a neurologist who will diagnose the disease through a series of MRI, clinical examination and history. A lumbar puncture may be advised if necessary.
Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
I was a nurse for awhile ( about 15 years )
It means there is a possibility you have Multiple Sclerosis aka MS with a new lesion
If you do there is a great medicine you take by injection ( Beta Seron ) which slows new growths
Your doctor needs to give you your DX
Hasn't your doctor spoken to you about your test results? I'm not a medical expert but, I really think you should talk with your doctor about this. Because only he/she can give you the most accurate diagnosis and the best treatment.
Good Luck.
