Can BPPV cause nerve damage or neuralgia?

Hello!

I just read a post "Vertigo in Children" in which Dr. Simra mentioned that untreated BPPV could possibly lead to nerve damage.  Two years ago I had an inner ear infection that eventually turned into BPPV.  I had the Epley Maneuver done, which corrected the problem.  I still have occasional dizziness, but it is not a problem.

Just four months after the BPPV I developed Geniculate Neuralgia in the same ear!!  I always found it suspicious that after never having any problems with my ears, to suddenly have BPPV and then neuralgia following it in the same ear.  None of my doctors have connected the two.  Am I understanding the doctor correctly?  Is it possible?  And if so, is there anything I can do to fix the problem?  I am in agony.  Thankfully a heat compress relieves my episodes, which can range from a few times a day to a few times a week.  They last hours.

Thank you!

Oh I'm so sorry to hear that!  Mine started exactly on the same side.  Thanks for your well wishes.  BPPV is NOT FUN.  Have you a doctor that can perform the Epley Maneuver?  It worked really well for me.

Best of luck to you!!

Boy, I sure hope it doesn't lead to nerve damage, since I've had BPPV about a month now.  It started with just one position of my head (lying down with head turned to left) but today it seems to be happening with all sorts of head positions.  I'm sorry to hear about your pain...hope you get some relief.
