Hi Doc.Just wanted to let you know that things are a lot better with me.I got a second opinion as regards the Temporal Arteritis and the cataracts. This doc seems to be taking it more seriously than the previous one and I have had numerous test done already with him. He also has me scheduled to see a neurologist, ophthalmologist and a rheumatologist in the very near future.
I want to thank you for your time and concern. It has been a difficult time but you have helped me thruoght it.At last I feel i am with the right dr. and feel better able to deal with this illness. take care of yourself ! cath278.
Hi.
The cataracts are not being exacerbated by the steroids. But there could be additional cataracts formed. This will be clear if you get a slit lamp examination for cataracts.
The original cataract will grow (depending upon the type) at its pace. Your symptoms suggest that your cataracts are somewhat centrally placed.
Can you not ask for a rescheduling your appointment at an earlier date ?
Yes, I do have glare with lights. In particular with headlights and sunshine. I have been having problems with my eyesight since May07( I have been wearing glasses since i was a child,Myopia and astigmatism) I found out about the cataracts by accident while being examined for Temporal Arteritis So cataracts were prior to steroids. Im guessing that the steroids are now progressing the development of the cataracts? And, if that is the case, there is nothing much I can do until I finish the treatment? How much further will my sight decrease? Im having problems with it now. For ex, Hard to cook, dont recognize people until they are in front of me,hard to see steps(depth). Sorry for all the questions, but May is a long time to wait for answers.Thank you again in advance! cath278
Hi.
Did you have the cataracts earlier ? Prednisolone and other corticosteroid medicines have cataract as a major side effect. When you visit the ophthalmologist, please make sure he examines for posterior subcapsular cataract, which is caused by corticosteroid treatment.
Do you get glares when you see lights ?
Regards
Thank you for reply.Im afraid I dont know what kind of cataracts I have. My doc is not very forthcoming with info.I am seeing a ophthalmologist in May and from what I understand, they wont treat the cataracts until I finish with the Prednisolone.Which, I have to say concerns me,as my vision seems to be declining by the day.I was worried that it might be the Arteritis so at least I can relax about that. Thank you for your help.cath278
Hello.
Have you decided any course of action for the cataracts ? The hazy peripheral vision may be due to the cataract causing refraction errors. It will be a good idea to consult an ophthalmologist.
What is the type of cataract you have ?
