Hi there.

Epidural shots would just aim to minimize the pain in the short term, may be in the range of 2-6 weeks.  In this case, repeated shots may be warranted for long lasting pain control.  Surgery may offer a more lasting pain control, however full recovery from the surgery will entail religious rehabilitation and may be more painful during the first few days after the surgery.  Your spine surgeon should be able to elucidate more the risks and benefits of spine surgery.

Wishing you all the best.  Regards.
