For subdural hygroma surgery is needed or not?

Hello. My mother is 49 years old and she diagnosed with left sides fronto-parietal subdural hygroma. Her CAT scan report stated that there is hypodense subdural collection noted at left fronto-parietal convexities, approx HU value 12-15.But the underlying cerebral cortex shows no evidence of mass effect. A triangular hypo- attenuating area noted at right centrum semiovale. I am worried that will she be ok after medication for prolonged time or we have to go for surgery. She is under mediation now. Is this condition deadly?

Have you gotten any direction from the doctors on what is to be done?  It sounds like they have given you a diagnosis but not much more than that?  I encourage you to ask questions of them- and if they wont' answer them or if you are still not sure, get a second opinion from another doctor.  So sorry your mother is going through this- it's hard when a new diagnosis is given, as it's unknown territory, but don't be afraid to press the doctors for answers.
