My son had vacant episodes, any ideas?

Hi, my son is 4 years old and he has vacant moments where he stares into space. The episodes last for about 5 or 6 seconds. He is not day dreaming, he does not blink, or appear to hear you. Do you thnk this could be linked to Dyslexia? as this was mentioned to me be a paed. Thanks

Could it be petit mal? Doesn't sound like dyslexia.

hi there are you new to medhelp?first of all i know it is easy for me to say but try not to panic. also at 4 yrs old i dont know how your childs consultant can even mention dyslexia to you.i dont know anythin of your history or medical history. but im quite sure that dyslexia is something that is picked up as the child develops into reading and writing. although research may have changed somewhat regarding this but i still feel at 4 years old it should not of even been mentioned. as a parent of course you fear the worst but the hard part is finding the cause. it could be something so simple like raised temperature that can happen in children.they can convulse and have episodes for several years and grow out of them and never have them again. they can have asthma attacks for several years as a child and also as they grow up,and grow out of them. i guess im trying to reassure you without knowing your history. you are obviously a concerned  parent, if your not happy with your childs paediatric.remember he or she is not the only doctor in the world and doctors are human.they can be wrong.seek a second opinion.its your right, iv had similar experiences, i truely wish you well with regards lisa
