Thank you so much on your thoughts. I have had these red patches since Sept 2010, no low-grade headache, or fever. It is from my upper chest all the way up and over my head down to the top of my upper back. To touch it feels as if I have a really bad sunburn. I am having a biopsy done Tuesday. Hopefully that will help solve this mystery. My dermatologist (who may I add is excellent) has done all the testing he can do and doesn't have a clue. My general doctor has done extensive blood test and taken me off all meds. Hopefully something will show up on the biopsy.
Hello,
One possibility for these dark red patches can be pityriasis rosea. Pityriasis rosea is a common human skin disease which presents as numerous patches of pink or red oval rash. The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and itching.
Initially, a primary plaque, called a herald patch, is seen. Then it is followed by a distinctive, generalized rash 1-2 weeks later. The rash lasts approximately 2-6 weeks and is found in a Christmas tree pattern over the trunk and abdomen.
To confirm the diagnosis, I suggest you to get an examination done from a dermatologist.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
