Syringomyelia

Hi. I was dx with a syrinx in my CSP @ C6-C7 in 2008. Still suffer with severe head and neck pain, numbness and tingling. Ruled out ACM with Cine MRI in Sept of this year. My question is with my syrinx not caused by ACM could it have been caused by an MVA in 1986 as a result I had whiplash? The pain seems to be caused by exertion such as exercise or straining with household chores, gardening etc. No Dr seem to think much of this and want to take the wait and see approach. Mean while I still suffer with severe pain. My question is this: Could this pain be the direct result of the Syrinx (syringomyelia) even w/o ACM?

Thanks

tracergirl,

Just wondering if you have other symptoms than the ones you describe above?

Hi yes,  a syrinx can be the result of a trauma such as a MVA...they can be slow to form.

U do not need to have chiari to have a syrinx. Syringomyelia is best treated by a chiari dr and  the best support will be in the chiari forum....we have members that have both chiari and  syringomyelia and some that just have a syrinx.

The biggest problem with a syrinx is many times there r too small to do nething with...stents and shunts can not be used and many drs feel u should experience no ill effects....we all know that to be wrong.

Please join the chiari forum to speak with other members with a syrinx-http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Chiari-Malformation/show/257?camp=msc
