Neuropathy

I have a couple of questions regarding this condition... Is neuropathy a constant state of discomfort or can the symptoms come and go? Can the symptoms be triggered by external factors or is it entirely internal? I'm having symptoms that are consistant with a neuropathy diagnosis and am trying to narrow the list of causes for this condition.

Thanks for your input.

I have SFN (small fiber neuropathy) and mine used to come and go over years I had no idea back then what it was and I didn't really think too much about it. This past year the frequency increased and the intensity increased as well but I still experienced times of remittance. Then about 3 months ago or so it just stayed. Now I have some kind of symptom each day that come and go throughout the day or I will have burning feet all day that increases in intensity.
I notice temp. effects my symptoms and also it appears stress can make it worse, in my experience.

I have small fiber peripheral neuropathy, and some of my symptoms definitely come and go (like burning hands, cold drips etc.)  Others vary in intensity.  Things like external heat and cold can exacerbate symptoms.  I imagine there are other external triggers (maybe stress?)
