Question for my mum She is in hospital after having her shunt fitted last week. She now has a bleed on the brain.  she is not eating or drinking as she is complaining about a taste in her mouth that is really bitter and she is sick if she does eat something. Has anyone else got experience of this ?

Hi Blooms, I'm sorry to hear that your mom is going through this.  I think I need a little more information on this case. What kind of shunt did she have placed? Does the shunt go from her brain to her stomach? How old is she? And can you provide a brief synopsis of her major medical history?

My colleagues and I are having a slow day in the ER so we are trying to provide answers to some of these questions!

She does have the shunt from brain to stomach. an added complication was she fell out of bed 2 days after surgery but has not eaten since due to this horrible taste. Apparently very bitter and the food tastes the same. She had the shunt put in as she was suffering with normal pressure hydrocelphelus.
