body tremor, tmj

Hi everyone. In the passing months I've been experiencing some very scary and confusing neurological symptoms and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. It began a few months ago with bad tension headaches which started at the back of my head and came around to the front. I should mention at this time I was experiencing lots of pain with the eruption of my wisdom teeth. My teeth are already very overcrowded so there was no room at all for my wisdoms to come through in the first place but they pushed through anyway and pushed my teeth closer together. It got to the point where the amount of pressure in my head became extreme. My vision was blurry, I was super sensitive to light and I felt pressure in my sinus and ears. I also had pain in my left arm. Later I began to feel a strange jerking in my left leg and left arm which I controlled because it frightened me. However, one night I was lying in bed when I went blind in both eyes. It lasted a second. Then it happened again. A few minutes later my body started convulsing. My legs were jerking uncontrollably. I went to the ER. They had no idea what was wrong with me and sent a referral to a neurologist. I'm yet to see him. Following that I had my wisdom teeth extracted. I figured it was the right thing to do. My dentist also told me I was suffering from TMJ. The day before the procedure I experienced another attack. I tried to remain calm by breathing slowly. Right after my teeth were extracted however my body began shaking uncontrollably all over. Both my arms, my torso and legs. I could not try to hide the shaking. Is it possible my body went into shock? I have undergone a brain MRI since then which rules out the possibility of a brain tumor. No lesions were found so I'm hoping that means no MS. I did cervical spine MRI which showed bulging discs in my neck. A ct scan of my lumbar spine showed bulging discs too. I recalled slipping discs in those areas months earlier. Could the disc bulging be contributing to the problem? A month on, I am still experiencing momentary blindness, blurry vision in my left eye only and tmj pain. I have a tremor in my entire body, especially when lying flat on my back. It prevents me from sleeping. Since the first attack ive had several attacks where my legs and left arm convulse uncontrollably and my muscles twitch. These are NOT panic attacks. In fact I usually feel very calm before they begin. I'd like to stress that the problem is mostly on the left side of my body. I now have swollen lymph nodes in my neck and a sore throat. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be wrong with me? Can anyone try to help me rule out scary conditions like ALS? I am trying to be brave. One more thing I should mention is that the pain in left arm has spread throughout all the muscles in the arm and is present at all times. Thankyou :)

Low level laser therapy heals the tmj discs, you can get this at chiropractor

Thank you so much for answering my question! A month on I am doing a lot better. Thank you for explaining the shaking after my tooth extraction. I have read about similar experiences and people have asked their doctors who have no idea why this happens. Is it just me or are some doctors (most doctors actually ha!) very unhelpful? Anyway looking back on the experience I was definitely suffering from anxiety which made my symptoms worse. I'm pretty certain I have spinal myoclonus which is what is causing the jerking. The jerking is still in my legs but is also now in my shoulders and neck. I am yet to see the neurologist. My tmj dysfunction has gotten a lot worse. I'm pretty sure it is causing severe pain in my arms but several dentists have told me this is not possible. I am yet to find out with treatment. I have had recurring throat infections which I'm pretty sure are also due to my tmj dysfunction. Good news is that I am no longer going blind, I believe this was due to an ongoing silent migraine caused by pressure in my head due to muscle cramps near my tmj. A fundoscopy at my optometrist showed my optic nerves were healthy. I  am yet to find out the results of am EEG and full spine MRI. I am praying that brain activity is normal and no lesions are found. Also my blood work is pristine. Thyroid function is normal and liver and kidneys healthy :)

First we need to clear up some misconceptions.  Panic/anxiety attacks does NOT have to be preceded by stress, being upset, etc.  They can and have arisen from perfectly calm people.  Second, when you went to the ER, were any lab diagnostic tests performed on you?  Thyroid function studies hopefully were done? Any history of migraine headaches or other seizure type activity?  The total body shaking that you experienced after having teeth extracted is seen in many people as an involuntary response (being freezing cold as well) that arises from hormone release, and many other procedures it occurs in as well (birthing a child is one of them). The swollen lymph glands and sore throat could well be from your dental extractions (gargle with some nice warm salt water 4 x daily to help that).  Typically with bulging disc pain, shaking can occur from the pain and impingement on nerves.  Keep moving your arm in all directions and stay active to help with the disc bulges.  If you are obese, weight loss will help significantly, so general exercise is a good thing period.  Low impact ones like walking, swimming, etc.  Good luck at your neuro appt.
