cervical surgery

I had cervical surgery eleven days ago c4c5c6 I think. The surgery went well I have very little pain in my neck]
however my upper back left and right of the spine is extremely painful I am taking pain relief every 3 hours and
using hot packs I still have 9 bulging disc around that area.
is this normal and is there anything else I could do to stop this pain.

The pain is to be expected, and yes the heat is the only thing I have found to help. I am on a long acting pain medicine for the pain and it's all that seems to help. Do they plan on doing more surgery if you don't mind me asking?
