fasciculations Muscle twitching all over all the time

Fasciculations. Why? I get them all the time. In my eye, arm, neck, calves, butt. All over. They are not painful, but I am having about many episodes a day and they keep me up at night. This has been going on for the last three years. I take magnesium thinking it would help. Nope. No help. I am watching one right now in my forearm. Really very annoying.

I figured I would try to exercise and that would help loosen my muscles. Nope. In fact it made me feel like I was hit by a truck and that is no exaggeration. My husband wanted to take me to the hospital, lol. For three days I hurt from some simple exercises to help with these fasciculations. NOTHING HELPS!

Fasciculations can occur locally within a muscle.  A group of muscle fibers rhythmically spasm.  It is sometimes described a "a bag of worms under the skin."  When it occurs in an isolated muscle, it is a common occurrence.  Many cases are due to benign causes.  When they happen as you have described in the arms, legs, and neck, you should see a neurologist.  Given the diffuse nature, it would seem to be a problem with electrolytes (Na+, Ca+, Mg+, etc) or a "grey matter" issue.  I would seek out a neurologist to diagnosis this issue.

I've had similar muscle twitching as one of my many symptoms of Lyme Disease. I had low B12 and low magnesium because of the infection.  To be Lyme, usually there are other symptoms, though.

Disease off the spinal chord such as degenerative disk can cause muscle twitching and also tingling off the arm, hands, face, legs, feet and toes as well as other places. Low b12 is also a cause off these symptoms. I have all this but in falre ups. I started having them 7 years ago and each flare up is worse an can really depress you if you let it.Get your b12 checked and I guess you will know if you have any arthritis in your neck or spine. If so mention it to doctor.good luck

i, too, have had the twitching since july, a few months after starting an exercise/nutrition program. i also had a lump in my neck and had a ct scan and ultrasound that revealed a wacked out thyroid...nodules, goiter, cyst. my bloodwork always fell in the range of normal. the lump under my jaw supposedly is insignificant but we never expected to find the other stuff in my thyroid. i had to get biopsies. turned out to be a malignant papillary carcinoma. people told me that could be why i have the random twitches all over (esp. when laying down reclining). i just had a total thyroidectomy last thursday...still have the twitches. how will the neurologist know there's a problem on the emg? they come back positive for lower back and cervical spine disc issues and radiculathopy. they say "see an endocrinologist" which i did cause of the thyroid. she says "see a neurologist". aaarrgghhhhh :=(

I also feel the same thing. I've been googling for weeks to get the right term for this feeling all over the body. . Kinda weird. Is this about blood ? or muscles ? or is it somehow related to blood cancer ?

I have a small weird painless soft, fix lump too in my right neck. about .5cm in diameter. its been here for 4weeks already. Are these two related ?

I hope this is not a serious condtion.

Is that too much though? I am taking more than the recommended amount, but the directed amount does not help.

Mine are not like that. It just looks like my muscle is wiggling around. If it was not so frequent I really would not care, but it happens all the time and more frequent at night. It is like someone turned a switch on one day and my muscles just started twitching, but it does seem to get worse. Now I have strong twitching in my Triceps brachii. Those ones are a little stronger and they are new.

I did take two Potassium and Magnesium Aspartate pills this morning. So that is up to 500 mg from 250. Much much better today.

There is a big difference between fasciculations, spasms, and clonus.   If a limb jerks, that is not a fasciculation.  Fasciculations look like  "a bag of worms under the skin" in an srea of a muscle.  Kind of a wiggling jiggling mini seizure in a portion of  a muscle.  There is not really enough activity to jerk or contract the muscle.  If your limb jerks once, that can be a spasm.  If it jerks back and forth in a confused fashion due to a stretching of the muscles, that is clonus.  It makes a big difference of how you explain this to a Neurologist.

muscle twitches, so much "fun" mine are more like jerks. it used to only be in my abs so when i was lying down it looked like i was trying to do stomach crunches. now it's spread to my neck, where i will just randomly turn my head on its side and it's also in my legs which like jumping around every now and again. when it's bad it also keeps me up at night.
my neuro diagnosed it as myoclonus. there are many causes for it but we unfortunately can't find it so at the moment so i'm just taking anti-epileptics to try keep it under control which is working to a certain extent.
i hope that your search for answers is a bit more successful
take care

Thank you for the response. The arm muscle twitching actually just started a few months ago. I remember when it started in my triceps. However, the muscle twitching as a whole has been going on for a while. It seems to be slowly spreading to other parts of my body. Fun:(

I do take a Magnesium and Potassium vitamin. The results were minimal, but it did slow down the twitching somewhat. So maybe it is a vitamin issue and is easy ti fix. We shall see. I will see a doctor in the next few weeks and keep this updated.
