Dr Adhijeet

Its me again, I hate bothering you.  I have been having what seems to me as a "toothache" the last few days.  I had this same toothache back in October 07, went to the dentist and took x-rays and said nothing was wrong with my teeth, but maybe I needed my upper wisdom tooth extracted.  I never had it extracted because while he was examining me, he had his fingers on my jaw joint and I was opening and closing my mouth, my jaw popped real loud and the pain was gone almost instantly.  So my question is?????

Could this possibly be TN?   I do have severe sinus problems and a bulging disk in my neck at C-3.
I get a dull ache on the toothache side next to my nose, Motrin
helps with the pain, but every once in a while I get a sharp, piercing
pain in the same area.  This all started 7 years ago when all the rest
of this **** started (see my previous posts to you, bowhunter0310)

Every year I have had a brain MRI and the last one in the Spring of last year showed that I had sinus thickening in all areas of the sinuses, but also in the right sphenoid area.  Could this be causing the pain?  Would the side of the nose pain come from the sphenoid area?

All right, I will shut up now.  I am just so afraid that this is the beginning of TN, I hear it is very, very horrible.  I really don't need this on top of everything else thats going on.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Jennifer

Thanks again.  I have an appointment tomorrow at an oral surgeon.  I may need to have my wisdom tooth extracted.  I have never had a tooth pulled, so I am kinda nervous.  I hope this is the problem.  I was wondering if this wisdom tooth is bad if maybe this could be the reason for my headaches/migraines.  I guess I'll find out, huh?  Thank you again for taking time out of your busy day.

Sincerely, Jen

Hello.

I would weigh TMJ against TN. The symptoms of both are usually similar. TN pain is usually brought on by even a light touch to the susceptible area. And only five out of a hundred have a bilateral TN.

Motrin is an analgesic. But it usually does not help in TN. A TMJ syndrome is very much a possibility.

Please contact your doctor and discuss this issue. I know it's been hard for you. For the last seven years, you must have been to many doctors. But I would like to urge you to keep the efforts on. Some of us are not so fortunate to be diagnosed instantly!!

Just wanted to ask what you think this problem could be?  My lower teeth hurt, but not trob like a normal toothache.  Under my ear is very tender to touch, no swollen lymph nodes, and the whole way down my neck and into my shoulder.  I took a Motrin 800 mg earlier and layed down a heating pad, the pain is gone now.  If this was some type of neuralgia do you think the Motrin would have helped?  Could this be TMJ? Thanks again.  BTW, you seem like a very caring person helping Madi the way you did on the previous post.  Kind hearted, very nice.

Thanks for your reply.  So you don't think this Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN).  My lower back teeth are still hurting and my jaw is really tender, feels like it could be bruised but isn't.  I take Allegra everyday for my allergies/sinuses.  I just don't know anymore, I have so many health concerns going on.  7 years is to long.

Thank you kindly, Jen

Hi.

Right now, there is no reason for you to have a TN. You have not had any recent infection. And the last time around, the pain was relieved by TMJ adjustment.

Sphenoid sinus inflammation can cause pain below the eyes and around the nose. But the cheek pain is cause d by the maxillary sinus inflammation. There is a thin line of demarcation.

What treatment are you taking for the sinusitis ? Your MRI shows thickening of sinuses.
