myoclonic jerks

i first had these jerks that prevent sleep three years ago when i was suffering a spell of extreme insomnia....i ended up hospitalized and they did a scan of my brain and the results were negative....so i never did get medication for the myochonic jerks and even a diagnostis....instead i was treated for depression with remeron, because it has the side effect of causing drowsiness....over the last three years i've slept pretty consistently and the jerks have been in the background....but just this last weekend, i got sick and the exhaustion from the illness made the jerks much more intense and frequently....i was right back to where i had been when i was admitted to the hospital.....i got on the web to do some research on this problem and discovered this thread and discussion about myoclonic jerks and for the first time have a real diagnosis....i'm planning on going to the new york sleep institute when i recover to get a prescription for klonopin....perhaps that is what i should have been taking all along, rather than an antidepressant merely because it makes people drowsy....i could be in my case that the sleep disorder caused the depression and not the other way around.....

I have a daughter who has been treated for seizures, she also has a learning diability and now has developed tremors in her neck and wrists. Her nuerologist has told me that this is called Myoclonic Encephalopathy syndrome.  She is being treated with something called zimpat.  Any info about this sydrome or medicine would really help.  Thanks
