Which book are you referring to?
Thanks for the note. I have read the book but it was not much help. I did find that Melatonin made the O.C.D. worse.
thank you for the advice. It is difficult.
Brain Lock by Jeffery Schwartz is a good book. It has helped me. There is also an audiobook version available read by the doctor himself. Getting your OCD under control takes work (it's not just reading a book and poof, it's gone), but it can be done. It is worth the effort!
It depends on what type of OCD you have. If your OCD involves irrational thinking then you can work on replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, self-coaching techniques, and controlled breathing to help you keep your heart rate down to deal with panic. If you are dealing with compulsions, then you need to learn ways to stop this behavior and thinking. No avoidance behavior. In a nutshell it is called cognitive behavioral therapy and there are a lot of tools to learn to help you through both types of OCD. CBT is usually taught by a psychologist but there are a number of books out there that you can use. One is The OCD Workbook: Your Guide to breaking free of OCD. Another useful one is Self-Coaching by Joseph Luciani. Also people have recommended Brain Lock but that is not one I have read.
This is something you need to work on every day. It is not something obviously that goes away over night. You have to make a committment to get better.
