struggling with checking things

GM7
Hi everyone, ever since I moved out of the house and starting living independently with my husband, I've had issues with checking things I do over and over again. I do not trust that I did something correct the first time so I check to make sure I did it the right way numerous times. For example, I'll check to see if I sent an email correctly over and over again. In addition, I often have trouble trusting that I did something at all. My mind often races when I do things so I end of forgetting I even did them. So, as a result I repeat things over again. For example, I will forget I took my medicine and not trust that I actually did, so I will end up taking it over again. THESE THINGS CAUSE SO MUCH ANXIETY AND TIME THAT I WOULD RATHER AVOID DOING THINGS. I feel so hopeless and sad because I'm on lamictal for anxiety and it hasn't helped my anxiety or ocd yet.

Ahhh....checking....I know it well.  Listen there are things you can do to stop this behavior.  The first is not to give into the impulse to go back and look.  So when you do something, i.e., send the email, take your medication, say out loud "I TOOK MY MEDICATION" or "I SENT THE EMAIL" this way when you have that moment of shear panic, you can remember that you said those words out loud.  It happens to me with the iron, the door lock, etc.  I say it out loud and then when I panic, I remember what I said and the panic goes away.

What you cannot do is give in.  You cannot go back and look.  You have to stop yourself because until you say "ENOUGH"  you are going to be stuck in this cycle of checking, panic, checking, panic.
