Fiber Dysplasia

When I was younger I developed a limp, by 14 found out my leg was shorter than the other.  Was diagnosed with Fiber Dysplacia and had a bone tumor at the bottom part of my femur.  My left femur bows and even takes a twist AND makes it shorter than my right femur.

I had surgery at 14, tumor was benign, and they put staples in all of my growth plates in my right knee (to let the left catch up) and stables in 1 side of my right knee to try and even out my left femur.

Since I have been fine however I get the basic arthritis in the cold, etc along with my left knee not lining up right it bugs me.

My question is, I am 28 now, things have changed since then.  Is there anything or any procedures I should be looking into?  My pain is minimal but my left knee region swells sometimes just because it isn't lined up right.  I can run and play but I have this terrible limp and my left leg bows, I am sick of the embarrassment.  Am I just going to have to live like this forever?  And also should I be concerned with the tumor ever becoming cancerous?  I want to stay on top of this, don't want to find out in 10 years I'm gonna lose a leg or die because I thought everything was good to go.

Thanks.

Hi Richard,
If you still have symptoms which are annoying you then you can look for option of corrective surgery. You are pain and swelling in your left knee which is annoying you then you should be seeing orthopaedician at earliest for evaluation and diagnosis and possible intervention. It could be due to osteoarthritis of your left femur.
I am not sure what tumor you had earlier, so it is difficult to comment whether your earlier tumor would turn malignant.
I appreciate your thoughts of staying healthy and fit.
I would recommend you to see an orthopaedician and get imaging study done.
Keep us posted with your answers.
Bye.
