I fractured my ankle 10 months ago and I still have pain on walking. A few months ago I had an MRI done and the findings were :Osteochondral fracture with surrounding bone edema;Incomplete fusion of fracture of medial malleolus with bone marrow edema; Marrow edema associated with the lateral malleolus likely reflecting sequelae of prior fracture;sequelae of prior injury of the deltoid ligament as well as the ATFL; extensive soft tissue edema as well as some intramuscular edema;. My original ortho says it will heal in time, and I had a second opinion that says he needs to put screws in the fracture and clean up the cartilage damage best he can. But, it does not sound like a very promising outcome. How can I have two such totally different opinions? Although I have to admit giving it time does not seem to be working. Just wondering is there a middle ground here??? Confused, perplexed, frustrated!!
