Healing Approaches for Bone Marow Edema in Femur

What else can I do to help resolve this issue also known as transient osteoporosis? Any insights on time line before return to previous activities (yoga/dance teacher) or cause?

2 months ago through an MRI I was diagnosed with subcortical bone marrow edema in my right femur. Prior to that (May 2008) an MRI found an L4 bulging disc with a small tear. There was no specific injury event. I have been taking anti-inflammatory herbs and foods, keeping weight off my leg when painful, using a cane, crutches, or wheel chair of needing to go very far. I am practicing the Egoscue method hip exercises. I tried acupuncture, chiropractic care, and physical therapy during  the first month with little relief so have been resting with the above mentioned self care. I'd like to hear of success with other people who have gone through this and what has helped and what to avoid. Thank you.

Hello dancer8,

Kindly follow the advice as directed, I am confident that you would surely improve in next 4-6 weeks. Also I suggest you to undergo a DEXA scan which quantifies your Bone mineral density now and repeat after two months to assess the mprovement.

Hello dancer8

It seems you have mild osteopenia. Calcium supplementation with specific zinc as an add on would really help in your case.
Continue doing the mild exercises that actually helps strengthening the muscles at the end of the joints and help the bone function as well.
Take lot of milk, fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables. This would surely further help.
