Is there really anything that can be done?

Hi, I'm a 52 year old female and I'm not real coordinated, okay, I'm clumsy.  In the past I have fallen from a height of 3 feet, landing hard and solid on a concrete floor.  The fall was so stunning, I couldn't move for about 8 minutes.  My teeth slammed together and I loosened my front bottom teeth.  My 'butt bone' took the brunt of the fall and I was in pain for weeks but I didn't go to a doctor because I wasn't sure there was anything that could be done for it.

Since that fall, I have fallen down a flight of stairs, landing again very solidly on a concrete floor, and on my butt bone.
I also had twisted my ankle so I was on crutches for about a month.  Again, no doctor.  And then last year I fell down my back steps and yep, landed on my butt bone but more to the left hip side.   That has been about a year ago.  My lower back, right at the top of what I guess would be the pelvis but in the back (?), just above my butt bone has been bothering me since that fall...and my left hip bone aches and aches and I have a hard time standing, sitting or even laying without pretty bad pain.  The lower back and left hip hurt all the time.  Sometimes it's as if I'm going to just fold over because my back/hip are going to 'give out'!  I'm taking at least 1000mg of Ibuprofen a day and using menthol rubs and massaging machines and stretching and heat and ice...Nothing makes the pain go completely away but it makes me feel better to be doing *something* for the pain.

My husband is begging me to see a doctor but I'm still not sure what could be done for me, except pain meds and I'm not thrilled to start that.  Do you think it would be beneficial to see a doc?  I mean you think there is a 'treatment' other than chiropractic (i just won't do that) or pain pills?

Thanks so much. lori

Hi:
I can not believe with all those injuries you have yet to see a doctor.  That is amazing.  I sincerely hope you haven't done irreparable damage by not going to a doctor before this.  I can understand your husband frustration.  Get to it before it is too late.
I have to travel for 9 hours and at great personal expense to see a specialist, and I am older than you, but we only get one life and we have to make the best of it.
My sincere best wishes as you need you life back.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. I think you have injured your back very severely. Depending upon the condition, modes of treatment are different.

In case there is fracture of lumbar vertebrae, slipped intervertebral disc surgery might help. Are you in menopause? This could also cause bone pains due to reduced calcium in your body.

Initially you should get a proper work up done and visit a orthopaedician. Surgery, pain killers and physiotherapy are the types of treatment which can help you.

Get well soon.
