Running

I have mild/moderate DDD and was curious if it's ok  to run/jog. I enjoy doing it, but also want to make sure i am not creating more issues.

Thanks Doc.

See the weird thing is half the people said what I have IS and issue and the other half have said its NOT..

However most of my issue are "muscular."

The orthopedic said that neck issues normally cause pain in the arms, tingiling etc... I don't get that.

The Physiatrist said that it was my neck and that it's cause of a tear etc. He was a bit of a quack.. I think.

Three neurosurgeons said that "Yes you have it but it's not the cause of you issues.." So in other words whatever I have going on there is not an issue for them..

So it seems that there IS DDD but the question is wether it's causing issues.

I was doing a pull up and my whole trapezius locked up ad I mean locked up from top to bottom. Went to a chiro and he twisted my neck 4 times in a week really really aggressive.... Never been the same again.  Now My whole back hurts all the time... neck traps. shoulders...

Hi there!

Well, at the age of 34 years I wouldn’t “normally” expect any amount of degeneration of the spine that would require a mention to the patient. Anyhow, the way this has been mentioned by your doctor, I would assume this to be relatively mild and exercising may actually be beneficial at this stage. However I would still suggest getting a green signal from your treating doctor as well. You may also like to consult a physiotherapist initially and practice a few exercises that may be beneficial in your case.

Take care!

Hi there!

Well, this would be a difficult question to answer without knowing the spinal level of the DDD and how mild/ moderate it is. Typically activities are preferred to strengthen the back muscles, unless it is uncomfortable for the patient; however a few activities like twisting the spine or jumping may put strain on it. I would suggest consulting your treating doctor about the level of activity that you could possibly indulge in, before making a start.
Hope this is useful.

Take care!
