Hi All,
I had an X-ray done a little bit ago for the thoracic region of my back and it shows a shallow right sided scoliosis at the thoracolumbar junction. I'm 49 y/o and have had the following surgeries on my spine 2005: l4-5 fusion with instrumentation for bi-lateral and spinal stenosis; 2007: c4-6 with instrumentation for severe instability; 2009 l3-4 microdiscectomy and l1-2 laminectomy - both for blown discs. Could the scoliosis been caused by the multiple surgeries? Just curious if anyone else ever had this happen to them. Thanks!
Yes your spinal complications combined with your surgeries can result in scoliosis. This is called degenerative scoliosis, degenerative scoliosis occurs in older adults.
It is caused by changes in the spine due to arthritis, bone spurs and weakening of the normal ligaments and other soft tissues of your spine.
Take care!
