age discrimination

Why is it that I can not get an orthopedic surgeon to recommend re-attachment of the torn long tendon of my right becep just because I am 61 years old?  They said it would be considered cosmetic surgery at my age.  Why is it that at my age it doesn't matter to them whether I still need the strength and pain relief that surgery could bring?
They all say that if I were in my twenties, then they would recommend doing the surgery.  Well, who has the right to tell me that a twenty year old needs his arm fixed just because he is younger.  I am very active, more active than many twenty year olds --- I don't care what my age is!  No one should have the right to kick me to the curb just for being over sixty!  It's age discrimination by the doctors and the insurance companies ---- and it stinks!!!

I hear you Dusty, I have a herniated disc but they don't want to raise my medication because I am too young and if something worse happens then I will have built a tolerance but I am not worried about 20 years from now worried about taking care of my 2 kids without being in so much pain I am crying, 20 years from now they will be out of the house then i can lay around and deal with it plus Im sure in 20 years there will be new advancements in medical treatment doctors suck

Thanks dusty.  I appreciate your frustration.  If I could help you I would. Be strong and hang in there (it's all we can do).  Take care.   Tapmny in Oregon.

I understand what you are going through. I've been dealing with age discrimination from the other end of the spectrum. I've been diagnosed with moderate osteoarthritis, and have been suffering since I was a teenager with pain, but can't get proper care because I am too young. It's the freakin' pits!!!
