My son is 7 years old and broke both bones in his left arm(forearm) while playing pee-wee tackle football Sat. afternoon. I am concerned b/c he broke the same arm (different place on the forearm) last year in October. The fracture now is far worse meaning he broke the bones completely in two. The last fracture was one broken bone and the other bone bent. He fell off the monkey bars at school when that happened. I know that football is dangerous but he was pushed down and not tackled hard when he broke his arm. I'm concerned that he may have a definciency in calcium or in his bones. I've talked with the surgeon who "set" the bones and he didn't seem concerned at all. He said that this is common among children, to break bones alot. I on the other hand don't feel that this is common at all. He is a very healthy boy and has never had any problems until last year. He is very active in sports and I don't want him to be afraid to play sports with fear of breaking more bones. My question is, Does this sound normal and what can I do to help strengthen his bones? He is currently taking Flintstone vitamins(extra calcium), drinking Vitamin D milk, and eating all the things that has "more calcium" written on the package. Any advice is very appreciated.
