scaphoidectomy +4corner fusion

around 1980 i had a minor accident on a motorcycle and as a result had a broken scaphoid which was missed on initial x-ray i then had a herbert screw inserted in 1987 which after about ten years needed to be removed i then had a spider plate fitted in 1997  which caused more pain and also had to be removed after a scaphoidectomy and four corner fusion in 2000  after two years the remaining metalwork was removed as this was still causing me a lot of pain and this pain subsided for a while  but then i had an accident at work when a disc cutter display fell on my hand  and i am now facing my sixth op some time this year as i am right handed  this has caused enormous problems with everyday tasks which we all take for granted especially hand writing which i find excruiatingly painful , i have to say my consultant has done his absolute best to sort this out and as a prolific model maker i have done really well but alas i think my model making days are fast coming to an end as i am finding that my fingers don't work as well as they use to i  am also unable to work as i cannot find suitable employment that eliminates either heavy lifting or manual dexterity , and above all else finding an employer who fully understands this problem is impossible my last employer knew about my condition but after a while became complacant and quite frankly didn't care  i have read many other stories on here about your experiences and can say in some cases they are very similar to mine, i used to be a driving instructor however i had to give this up for safety reasons i have worked in the funeral business i cannot do this any more, i have done driving jobs but again heavy lifting has meant i cant do that either and at 56 i am fast running out of time  and options as far as employment is concerned.  And now the DWP will put further pressure on me as regards capability to work.

this sadly is the reality of what you may face as time goes on i am registered as disabled but this means nothing in real life, i am facing another operation which i am dreading but i just hope that when this is done i may be pain free. this procedure is clearly a lot more common than i thought

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi!
I am sorry to hear about your medical problems.  Yes, it would be difficult to find suitable job with the problem in your wrist. However, try consulting an occupational therapist. They can guide you regarding how to best manage your present job or what other job options you can try. Hope this helps. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
